Sharing Stories

by Marjorie J McDonald

All of us have memories of events that happened to us as we were growing up. The events in our lives go from major to funny to events which make us wonder what in the world was that. It is fun to share this info with other people. The pleasure that they get from reading about events in someone else's life can add to the satisfaction of their own life.

Telling tales is one of the ways we share this info with others. We've been sharing by telling tales for decades and that is why we enjoy reading about history. You could prefer a certain type of story, your story might need to be funny, or your story might want to be a drama. The library is full of books that can give you any type of story you prefer.

We follow stories on telly, through book series, and through storytelling events at bookstores or at gatherings. Your family can have a favorite story about you that you would prefer that they did not remember. There's a way for you to switch your story. By gathering information from a number of your different family members and announcing to the family members present at the time the tale starts about you can include what some other person recalled about the tale. By adding additional data, the original story can change and you may realize that you are less embarrassed when your relatives begin to share.

Some of the stories that we share with one another at common family gatherings like holidays, birthdays and special anniversaries are things that help us to recollect our own history. Once certain family members have passed on, the memories of the stories that we used to share become far more necessary to us. Starting with these stories will make creative writing easy to do.

Go back thru some of the stories that you remember that your folks shared with one another, and see whether you might add any of these events to the stories that you are writing now. Taking an event from real-world, can give your story believability and add to the pleasure for your reader.

Often times fave stories are the ones that we read again and again. So have fun, create new stories mixed in with stories that you remember from growing up and see if you can create some memories that folks will continue to enjoy for several years to come.
