The Best Way to Overpower Writer's Block

by Misty Roberts

Periodically your fingers, in perfect sync with your mind, tap away gracefully on the keyboard and you've got no problem in putting down your thoughts on paper or in your word processor. At these times you feel you were born to write. It's an exhilarating feeling so you feel on top of the world!

On the other hand there are those times when you stare blankly into empty space, perfectly mirroring the void in your head. You sit there twiddling your thumbs and you just do not have an idea in regards to what to write or do.

Does the scenario sound familiar? If you write for a living, then you need not worry! You are suffering from writer's block! Most writers have been there and gone through this sort of phase.

Sometimes a nice long walk will aid you to organize your ideas and provides you with a fresh perspective on things! Alternatively you can enter the kitchen and cook up something you want to eat! Go and spend some time with your friends! The theory is always to take a break and do something else you enjoy! You will come back refreshed and feel much better!

If you are fortunate enough to have written several bestsellers, then one option would be to go on a vacation. There is nothing stopping you from taking a few days off and driving right down to the beach or taking in some crisp and fresh mountain air. A holiday is a good idea if you need inspiration for your latest writing venture.

But a vacation might not work for two different reasons altogether! For example, you might not have sufficient cash stashed away! Two, the issue may be deeper and a vacation would be just a diversion that may in all probability, not throw open the mental block!

So, where lays the answer? Dig deeper and do some introspection and find what produces the mental block! You have to deal with the problems in the end and the sooner you do so, the better! If something or someone is troubling you then deal with that something or talk to that someone and sort out the problem.

Another reason that several writers go into a lapse and are unable to write is really because they wonder whether or not they are in the right profession! If you take a look at things that way then grab a great book and read. Notice the author's style and flow of ideas from the writer's perspective.

Writing is a superb profession and you have to be convinced about that if you wish to succeed! Fighting writer's block caused by a insufficient appreciation for that profession is the most difficult thing to do. But there are occasions when you may need to ignite your relationship with writing once again!
