Trends for 2011 Bridesmaid Dresses

by Mondo Humboldt

The struggling economy these last few years has shaped the trends in the look and style of a bridesmaid dress. Even though the economy is looking up, some of those trends from the previous seasons are going to evolve into what the bridesmaid dresses will look like this spring!

One of the biggest trends recently has been the knee-length bridesmaid dress. Even though there are many brides who still love the floor length gowns for their bridal party, shorter lengths have increased in popularity. The increase in popularity is due to the fact that knee-length or cocktail-style dresses are more likely to be worn again. This re-usability makes them a great economical option for bridesmaids. Brides who choose these reusable styles for their bridesmaids are doing them a huge favor.

Most of the bridesmaid dresses we will see in 2011 will be strapless. The strapless dress is another huge and rising trend in bridesmaid dresses and has been a long time trend we have seen for bridal gowns. The strapless style flatters the neck and shoulders, resulting in a very feminine and classic look. A strapless dress has to be properly fitted to it's owner, and quality strapless bra must be used in order to enjoy the maximum flattery for the figure that this style provides.

One-shouldered dresses are also rapidly growing in popularity. The unique, asymmetrical shape of a one-shouldered bridesmaid dress suits brides who want a bridal party with a fashion-forward edge. The single shoulder strap can be delicate, for a feminine look, or bolder, for a more sassy and urban appearance.

Feminine touches like lace, floral, bead, and sequin embellishment are back in a big way, as are soft chiffons. Many bridesmaid dresses for Spring 2011 are somewhat more body conscious than in recent years, using sashes, bows, and ruching in order to emphasize the natural waist for a classic and feminine look.

The colors we are going to see in 2011 will be bright, like fuchsia, apple green, amethyst, yellow, and orange. Classic colors will also be making an appearance as well, colors like gray, navy, and chocolate brown.

The bridal party that is not uniformed or identical is another returning trend this season. Instead of each bridesmaid matching exactly with each other brides are letting them choose from a few styles and/or a color palette. This allows each bridesmaid to show a little more of their personality and will result in a higher chance the bridesmaid will love and reuse the dress.

Regardless of the style, color, and cut of your bridesmaids dresses, in Spring 2011 the biggest trend is to make the saying "always a bridesmaid, never a bride" be a little less depressing by providing your bridesmaids with beautiful and wearable dresses that they will love forever.
